Character History
Layla was born into a very strange family. From the time she was little, she knew she could never get away with anything. No matter what, her mother always knew when she had done something naughty. She never thought anything of it until she began elementary school. Her mother never asked about her day, as the other students’ mothers did. Her mother always just… knew. The older Layla got, the stranger she found it that her mother could just know things, things she shouldn’t have known, things she’d have no way of knowing.

When she was ten, her mother explained to her that in a few years, she would begin knowing things too. It would start off as feelings about any particular thing, but as she became a woman, she would begin seeing things. Her mother explained that they came from a long line of Seers, dating back to the Ancient Pythoness or the Oracle of Delphi, now a vampire feared and respected by all. Pythia protected her family, and so no supernatural being would ever go near her against her will. Under the protection of the Ancient Pythoness, Layla felt free to explore her gift and harness its power, the ultimate test being attending Tulane University in New Orleans, and graduating top of her class. After school, unwilling to leave the mecca for people as unusual as she was, she took a job as a fortune teller, rarely ever telling fortunes so as not to draw unnecessary attention to herself, but training herself through having thousands of willing customers open themselves up to her and let her read them.

One day, into her little shop walked Eric Northman. She proved her gift to him, and he invited her to move to Shreveport, at his expense, and become his day person. She naturally accepted, excited at the proposal, and moved onto the new stage of her life. It provided her with countless new opportunities, along with quite a lot of work, but she quickly found a soft spot for her boss. A very soft spot, in fact, as she found herself becoming infatuated with him shortly after she took his blood, bonding with him for the first time when he healed her from the flu.

Working for Eric was anything but boring. Everything Eric needed done for him during the day was her responsibility, and that was quite a lot of work, given that Eric was the Sheriff. It was dangerous work, too, as Layla found out when first Dracula entered her life, because of her connection to Eric (though really, he vowed to kill everyone), and then when Layla found herself kidnapped by the Fellowship because of her ties for him. Both times, though, Eric protected her and kept her safe, just as she would do for him in a heartbeat if he ever needed it.

After the disaster with the Fellowship, Eric took Layla on a four-day-long date to Las Vegas. The surprise trip allowed the now twice-bonded pair to take their relationship to a new level, seeing each other as more than boss and day person, but as romantic interests. On their return to Shreveport, both knew they wouldn’t have even close to that alone time together, given how in-demand the Sheriff was, but no matter what, that their relationship was forever changed.
